iTunes Won’t Save Changes

Today I added some files to my iTunes music library that wouldn’t have their id3 metadata changed. I opened the info window in iTunes, changed the album name, hit OK and the new names displayed properly. But then if I opened the info window again on the track, the old name was there again. There are some forums threads on this issue, for example this one at macosxhints.com.

I fixed this issue by having id3tag touch the files before importing them into iTunes, for example having it set the artist using id3tag --artist="New Artist Name" *.mp3. Apparently, this fixes the metadata so that iTunes knows how to handle it again.
