Today is the day the Portuguese will vote ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to/against the decriminalization of abortion. It’s a hot issue here; even though I don’t watch Portuguese tv or read newspapers, I notice the buzz: friends talk about it, there are stands in the center with activists addressing people on the streets, there was a discussion on it at university, and last Friday, while walking to Vianna café, there was a procession, while the rain was pouring down. The law only changes if at least 50% of the Portuguese electorate votes.

22:39 update: Although a majority of the voters voted for the decriminalization, the turnout was too low for the referendum to be valid. Read more.
